Mineraloid ID Database

Welcome to the official OPL Mineraloid ID Database. Every specimen cataloged by Opal Professor Laboratory receives a permanent Mineraloid Identification Number. These IDs are used to track specimens across collection records, treatment batches, research projects, White Sheets, case studies, and long-term archival documentation.
This database is intentionally simple. Its purpose is to provide a permanent reference index for issued specimen numbers and to allow collectors, customers, and researchers to verify that a specimen exists within the OPL archive.

Special Research Designations

Some specimens may contain additional suffixes or designations identifying their research significance.

Examples include:

  • FRH = Fractal Reverse Honeycomb specimen

  • LHM = Lightning Honeycomb specimen

  • DHI = Diffuse Hydration Instability specimen

  • IHC = Irreversible Hydrostructural Collapse specimen

  • ANOM = Noted anomaly specimen

These designations indicate that a specimen has been referenced in research, testing, failure-mode analysis, or White Sheet documentation.

Important Note

Mineraloid IDs are permanent and are never reused. The presence of a specimen within this database does not indicate ownership, availability, or sale status. Many entries represent research specimens, personal collection pieces, historical archive specimens, or benchmark reference material retained by OPL.

How to Read an OPL Mineraloid ID

Each section of the ID provides information about the specimen.

OP

Opal Professor Laboratory

The collection prefix identifying the specimen as part of the OPL archive.

WL1

Geographic Source Designation

A location code identifying the source region of the specimen.

Examples may include:

  • WL1 = Welo/Wollo Region

  • MZ1 = Mezezo

Additional source designations may be added as the archive expands.

ETH

Country of Origin

Country code identifying where the material originated.

Examples:

  • ETH = Ethiopia

  • AUS = Australia

  • USA = United States

G

Opal Type Classification

OPL numerical opal type designation.

  • 1 = Solid Opal

  • 2 = Boulder Opal

  • 3 = Matrix Opal

Additional classifications may be added as needed.

TX

Treatment Code

Treatment status assigned to the specimen.

Current Armor Series designations include:

  • T0 = Untreated Natural

  • T1 = Apex Armor™

  • T2 = Halo Armor™

  • T3 = Ghost Armor™

  • T4 = Orchid Armor™

  • T5 = Hydra Armor™

  • T6 = Typhon Armor™

  • T7 = Alien Armor™

  • TX = Experimental Protocol

Additional treatment designations may be added as OPL research expands.

BYYYY-##

Batch Number

Batch identifiers record when a specimen entered a treatment, research, or cataloging batch.

Where:

  • YYYY = Year

  • = Batch number for that year

SERIAL

Permanent Specimen Identifier

The final number or designation is the specimen's unique serial identifier within the OPL archive.

Mineraloid IDs are permanently assigned and are never reused.
